Transcript of Republican National Convention platform statement by Mary Dye, Farmer from Washington and Co-Chair of the Energy, Agriculture, and Environment Subcommittee, on Aug. 20, 2012:

“In relations to agriculture while there may be 16 million ag jobs, there are only 150,000 farmers who make their living entirely from farming in the United States.

“We’re a very sophisticated and technical group, and we’re very scrappy. And we are very grateful for this platform that gives us the opportunity to compete.

“Finally, energy and agriculture are linked. There is nothing more important to our food supply than to have a consistent and abundant fuel supply to fuel the tractors that make it possible for 150,000 people to feed the entire world well.

“So we appreciate everything that has been offered in this platform because it gives us a new opportunity in a new century to prove how truly great liberty and freedom on private property can be.”
