Transcript: Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association endorses the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act of 2013

Transcript of press briefing remarks by Chris Schoppmeyer, Vice President of the Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association, on the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act of 2013 on Feb. 5, 2013:

The Federal Law Enforcement Officers Association is pleased to support this piece of legislation – the Gun Trafficking Prevention Act of 2013 – and its sponsors, the Honorable Carolyn Maloney, Elijah Cummings, Patrick Meehan, and Scott Rigell.

Like you, Scott, I’m an avid sportsman myself in New Hampshire.

FLEOA is the largest organization representing 20,000 members from 65 agencies including the men and women of the ATF and FBI, Secret Service, Drug Enforcement, Natural Resource agencies and all the other agencies.

This bipartisan support of the House members will give law enforcement a much-needed tool to help combat the flow of thousands of illegal firearms to individuals who commit these violent crimes through their support and their assistance to help perpetuate these crimes. This legislation will hold those straw purchasers accountable and impose serious penalties for their actions.

FLEOA recognizes that this legislation is not directed at law-abiding gun owners or sportsmen. It gives our member agents and officers the ability to investigate and apprehend those individuals who are party to violent crimes.
