Transcript of MA Gov. Deval Patrick’s remarks on the arrests of 3 suspects in connection with the Boston Marathon bombings on May 1, 2013:

Gov. Deval Patrick:

…They’re not new people to me in the sense that we know – I know that the FBI has been asking questions of these folks for several days now.

Question:
This is post-bombing, correct? We have no concerns of them actually helping or facilitating…?

Gov. Deval Patrick:
Oh, no, no, no. That’s not – based on the briefings I had – I have had – this is not about – this should not raise any concerns in anyone’s mind about a continuing threat to the public. This is about getting all the way to the bottom of the story of what happened at the marathon.

Question:
Is it your understanding that they did or did not have a role in the bombing incident?

Gov. Deval Patrick:
It’s my understanding that they did not. But as I said at the beginning, the investigation continues and there are lots and lots of questions that you and I and everybody else has and the FBI is going to run every one of those…[mumbled audio]

Question:
Governor, were you aware that more arrests would be imminent?

Gov. Deval Patrick:
Well, if I were, I couldn’t tell you. [Laughter]

Question:
What is going through your mind now as the investigation progresses and there are more arrests? I mean, does it bring relief? Does it bring a sense of justice? What is going through your mind?

Gov. Deval Patrick:
It has been a source of comfort for me as a citizen, let alone as a Governor, I think probably to others that the law enforcement has been as committed to solving this case and understanding the why’s and the how’s as they have been and that they’re working so well together. And I think that will continue.

Question:
Do you have concerns…new information that there might be other international concerns that were raised…that haven’t been investigated properly?

Gov. Deval Patrick:
Do I have concerns about that? Well, I read stuff. You know, I hear what you guys and gals are reporting. I have some access but not unlimited access to the information that law enforcement have. I have what they give me through briefings. That’s not my principal concern. My principal concern is to understand the whole scope of this action – who was involved, why they did what they did, and to make sure it’s all been closed off. And I feel quite confident that they’re making that kind of progress.
