Transcript: Yuba County District Attorney Patrick McGrath’s statement on the $315 million plan to expand prison capacity

Partial transcript of remarks by Patrick McGrath, District Attorney of Yuba County, Calif., on expanding prison capacity to comply with the federal court order to reduce prison overcrowding. The press conference was held on Aug. 27, 2013:

Good afternoon. My name is Patrick McGrath. I’m the District Attorney of Yuba County.

It’s obviously a small county. We’ve been impacted by Realignment.

The California District Attorneys Association is proud to stand with the governor on this proposal.

I can tell you that there would be nothing more corrosive to the public confidence in the criminal justice system than the early release of inmates.

And this proposal honors the lawful sentences imposed by judges. It does not release inmates early. Thank you, governor.
