Transcript: Sen. Amy Klobuchar’s remarks on the Free Flow of Information Act – Sept. 12, 2013

Partial transcript of remarks by Sen. Amy Klobuchar (D-Minn.) on the Free Flow of Information Act. The Senate Judiciary Committee hearing was held on Sept. 12, 2013:

…I was listening to Sen. [John] Cornyn’s remarks.

And first of all, I have a lot of faith in Sen. [Dianne] Feinstein’s work on intelligence issues and I think that is important as we look on this bill.

But secondly, he made the comment that this was done in response – this bill was somehow came in response to what happened with the Justice Department. You know, I fully believe that maybe the Justice Department’s new guidelines came out of that, but this bill was in the work as has been pointed out by my colleagues for 4 years. There were some legitimate differences about some of these issues that have now been worked out.

But we can’t forget that this bill existed long before this happened, and one of the reasons it’s so important to pass this bill is that it puts into law these rules so that they’re not just changing with each and every administration.

Sen. Cornyn’s point here that one administration has a different view than another. That’s why I think it’s so important to get this bill in place.
