Transcript: Sen. Harry Reid’s remarks on the passage of ENDA – press briefing Nov. 7, 2013

Partial transcript of remarks by Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid (D-Nevada) on the Senate’s passage of S. 815 Employment Non-Discrimination Act of 2013 (ENDA), which prohibits employment discrimination on the basis of sexual orientation or gender identity. The bill was approved by the Senate by a vote of 64 to 32. The press briefing was held on Nov. 7, 2013:

I’ve served in the House but I’m sure over there some place – I just don’t know where – there’s this room and it’s got in it, the farm bill, and it’s got – of course – immigration, which is a big bill. It’s got marketplace fairness. It’s got the postal bill. And we can add to that this.

So the right time is going to come when we find out where it is – where that vault is and bring up all this stuff that the American people support overwhelmingly.

Speaker Boehner, please, please do what is right for the American people. Let’s do this legislation. It is fair. This legislation is only about fairness. More than 80% of the American people already believe it’s the law. So let’s do it.
