Transcript: Remarks by Attorney Lori Windham on Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius

Partial transcript of remarks by Lori Windham, Counsel for the Beckett Fund for Religious Liberty, who represents Hobby Lobby, on Hobby Lobby v. Sebelius. The press briefing was held after the Supreme Court oral arguments on March 25, 2014:

This case poses a critically important question: Do American give up their religious freedom when they open a family business?

We are encouraged by the arguments today. The justices seemed deeply skeptical of the government’s arguments that Americans who open a closely-held family business give up their right to religious freedom and could be subject to whatever the government mandates that they do.

The Green family has long operated Hobby Lobby consistently with its religious beliefs and religious principles. They hope to be able to continue to operate Hobby Lobby consistent with their religious beliefs, and we are hopeful that a good decision later this term will allow them to do that.

Thank you.
